Psychiatry

Overview

As mental health care providers, we have been engaged in clinical practice, education, and research under the principle of "providing the best possible medical care to the patients in front of us and striving to provide even better care in the future”. In fact, although we provide psychiatric care according to international diagnostic criteria and treatment guidelines, there are still significant numbers of patients who are difficult to diagnose or treat. In addition, there are still many prejudices about mental disorders in our society. We are taking on the challenge of working together as a department to solve these difficult problems.

Research & Education

  • We provide education in psychiatry for medical students and graduate students, as well as training in psychiatric care for beginning residents and young psychiatrists.
  • It is the responsibility of the Department of Psychiatry at Chiba University Hospital to provide advanced psychiatric care to patients with mental disorders that are difficult to diagnose or treat in general psychiatric institutions, both as outpatients and inpatients.
  • In order to provide better medical care for mental disorders such as treatment-resistant schizophrenia, including dopamine supersensitivity psychosis, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and eating disorders, we are actively engaged in symptom research, development of new treatments, biomarker research, psychopharmacological research, molecular biological research, and development of community collaboration systems.
  • Through research on mental health and mental training of athletes, we are also working on sports psychiatry for the development of lifelong health and wellness of people.
