Regenerative Medicine

Overview

Blood cells circulate in the body and play essential roles in maintaining the body's homeostasis, such as immunity, oxygen supply to tissues, etc. In our laboratory, we are working on (1) regenerative medicine using blood cells and (2) elucidating the pathophysiology of refractory hematopoietic diseases by integrating knowledge and technologies such as molecular biology, cell biology, bioinformatics, and material engineering.

Animal models such as mice help elucidate many biological phenomena and pathological conditions, but the characteristics of some diseases differ significantly from those of humans. One of the characteristics of our laboratory is that we are focusing on research using human cells with a view to a more clinical exit.

We are currently promoting research on the following projects.

  • Establishment of a therapeutic model using hematopoietic stem cells derived from human umbilical cord blood.
  • Elucidation of pathological conditions and biomarker by comprehensive genome/epigenome analysis of samples derived from patients with refractory hematopoietic diseases.
  • Establishment of wound/fracture healing model using artificial platelets derived from human iPS cells.
  • Research on aging disease model using human iPS cells.
