Establishment of International exchange programs in medical education and scientific activities

On the basis of scientific acitivities, the following inernational exchange programs have been undertaken.

 

a) With JSPS support, Prof. Yano visited the Department of Parasitology at the University Malaysia School of Mecine in June, 1998, to exchange informations and make a plan for collaboration and to invite a scientist from Malaysia University to establish a diagnosis system for congenital toxoplasmosis and develop a gene vaccine against toxoplasmosis. Dr. Zurainee Mohamed Nor, Lecturer at the Department of Parasitology, University Malysia School of Medicine, are now working in our Department from Semptember 1, 1998 to December 31, 1998 on the above mentioned projects.

Prof. Yano also visited the Institute of Tropical Medicine Mahidol University Faculty of Medicnne( Thailand), Laboratorio de Immunopatologia Keizo Asami, Universidade Federal de Pernambuco Brazil this year, and have started two programs.

b) Eight students of the Medical School and the Department of Nursary, Chiba University, visited Thailand and took a visiting course in Tropical Medicne at the Insitute of Tropical Medicne, Mahidol University, from October 31 to November 11, 1998.

c) Twenty students from the School of Medicine and School of Nursary, Chiba University, visited Nepal to visit Tribhuvan University ( Head Prof. H.G. Shresta) and Patern Hospital ( Dr. Prasai) to gain an understanding of the medcial situation of Nepalfor 10 days starting from August 16, 1998.

d) Prof. Yano has been an emeritus Prof. Hubei Medical College, China, since 1994. One graduate student was accepted from HubeiMedical College, and she obtained MD. PhD. Degree.

e) Prof. Yano visited the Laboratorio de Immunopatologia Keizo Asami

Universidade Federal de Pernambuco Brazil( LIKA) in July, 1998, and made a contract between the Department of Parasitology, Chiba University and LIKA in which the following two collaborations of projects will be performed from December 1998 to November 2001 by exchanging scientists. From December 9, 1998, Dr. Masashi Kobayashi, Assistant Professor, the Department of Parasitology, Chiba University School of Medicine, has been working at LIKA for this collaboration. The two projects are 1) establishment of diagnosis method for filariasis, and 2) establishment of diagnosis method for toxoplsmosis.

f) Prof. Yano was a member of the Citizen Ambassodor of U.S.A. ( Leader Prof. J. Cross, Department of Preventive Medicne and Biometrics Uniformed Services, University of Health Sciences U.S.A.) , and visited Vietnum and China on 1995 to observe the endemic area of malaria and other parstic diseases.

g) With the suport of JSPS, Prof. Yano invited Dr. Hardy Sarazar ( Institute of Tropical Medicne of Philippines) from January to March 1996 to study the establishment of diagnosis methods with PCR.

h) Dr. Alain Danino ( Department of Plastic Surgery University of Paris, 7th Saint Rui Hospital, France) studied the analysis of the translocation dynamics of parasites with parabiosis techniques from October 1997 to October 1998 with the Government Funds of France.
